What will lessons be like?
For me, teaching is all about helping students turn what at first seems impossible into something that can be easy. In lessons, we experiment to find creative solutions together. I have taught guitar enthusiasts ages 3 to 75, beginners to undergraduate levels and have frequently worked with neurodivergent students, developing custom curricula to explore pathways to discovering more joy in music. We play repertoire that spans five centuries by composers such as Savio, Weiss, Sanz, Giuliani, and Kraft — demystifying the composer’s intent and discovering the story behind the music.
What I’m looking for is the “A-Ha” moment in my students: when their eyes light up and a concept or explanation really hits home. I’m focused on unlocking their motivation and curiosity—that’s everything.
I’ve served on the college faculties of both TiempoMusica and Fermatta in Mexico City, and as a graduate teaching assistant at Hunter College, NYC. In addition, I have presented masterclasses and community engagement concerts at 16 different colleges within the National Polytechnical Institute in Mexico City. Beyond private guitar lessons, I’ve also taught undergraduate music theory, aural skills, solfège, and music history.
Online Lessons
Schedule: Lessons are scheduled weekly and last 50 minutes. Each student has a reserved lesson time each week.
Individual instruction: Lessons are one-on-one so that each student receives personalized guidance and pacing.
Format: All lessons are taught online using Zoom to make studying accessible for all. A computer or tablet with an external microphone is recommended for the best sound quality. Please avoid joining lessons by phone because the screen is too small.
Student Responsibilities
Students should tune the guitar before each lesson, keep the nails on the left hand very short, and sit on a chair without armrests.
Students are expected to practice at least five days each week and bring all assigned materials prepared for the lesson. Consistency is key for your being able to see real progress in your musical journey.
Recordings
Lessons will be recorded and made available to students for practice and review. Videos will be available for seven days and the link will be included in your Studio Tracker Google doc.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend lessons on time. If you are late I still won’t be able to extend the lesson because other students are coming after you.
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to reschedule or cancel a lesson. No more than three lessons may be rescheduled during the school year.
If a lesson must be cancelled due to illness, please notify me by 9:00 a.m. Two make-up lessons are available during the school year.
A missed lesson without notice is considered a no-show and will be charged as a regular lesson.
Communication
The best way to reach me is by email ([email protected]).
Behavior
I will be respectful of students and I expect them to be respectful of me. Disruptive behavior (not paying attention, being distracted by other websites, being on the phone, to mention a few) is not permitted. If something in the lesson or in the teaching is bothering you please let me know and we can talk it through.
Payments
The studio years includes forty two lessons. These are spread during the school year to make time for vacations and make up lesson weeks.
Tuition is divided into equal monthly payments across twelve months. This flat monthly rate already accounts for forty two lessons per year.
Federal holidays will be observed.
